You And The Prophets – Recognizing The Ministry Of God’s Prophets.

In this world over the years, there are people who walked through life with ease and without many struggles just because they recognized and utilized the ministry of GOD’S prophets. No wonder GOD said in the book of Hosea 12:13 “By a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, And by a prophet he was preserved”.

In other words, it was through a prophet that GOD used to bring the people of Israel out of bondage in Egypt and they were equally preserved by a prophet.

That is to say, as we walk through life, there are many deliverance needs that may never come our way but only through the ministry of the prophets of GOD, and many are preserved only because of the prophets. To look at the ministry of the prophets of GOD further, by looking the following:

Firstly, we see that prophets of GOD are agents of deliverance/ liberation. Hosea 12:13. Also, look at 2nd Kings 4:8 – 37; in that passage, it was through a prophet that GOD used to delivered the Shunammite woman from bareness and also delivered her son from death.

Secondly, the prophets of GOD, apart from being an agent of deliverance, they are also agents of preservation: look at 1st King chapter 17 verses 8 to end. In that story, GOD sent Elijah to a widow woman of Zarephath. When that woman  first encountered  Elijah, she had this to say as seen in verses 12 “And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”

By reason of the presence of Elijah in her house and her obedience to the words of Elijah as seen in verses 15 to 16, “And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he and her house did eat many days. And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

Thirdly, prophets of God are agents of prosperity: look at what happened in 2nd King chapter 4 verses 1 to 7; Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

And Elisha said unto her, what shall I do for thee? Tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not anything in the house, save a pot of oil. Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbor’s, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.

And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full. So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.

And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, there is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

Also, in the book of 2nd King chapter 6 verses 25 to end you will see the critical situation in Samaria. But in chapter 7 from verses 1, there was an intervention by a prophet of GOD, “Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; thus saith the LORD, tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria”.

Look at verses 16, “And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.

In order to benefit from the ministry of the prophets of GOD, we need to heed what Jehoshaphat said in 2nd Chronicles chapter 20 verses 20  “So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”

For emphasis, we should note that in today’s world, when we talk of the prophets of GOD, we are referring to genuine, called and ordained men of GOD that are serving GOD in truth. If we recognize the ministries of the prophets of GOD and are diligent to obey and follow their instructions, it is only then that their ministry can be beneficial to us. End of part one, watch out for part two and the concluding part of the series. Shalom.
